SKIN AND SEASONAL ALLERGY SUPPORT

Dealing with Skin or Respiratory Allergies?

There’s a Solution

Seasonal allergic reactions are an immune response to something in your horse’s environment and can be more than just a nuisance for horses, affecting overall health, disposition and performance, as well as skin health and the appearance of the hair coat. Omega-3 fatty acids along with a balanced diet can significantly impact the allergic response. Platinum Performance® Equine can support a healthy level of inflammation in response to common seasonal allergens. For advanced cases Healthy Weight can be fed in combination to provide additional omega-3 fatty acids and the antioxidant, vitamin E.

Allergy Support with Omega-3 Fatty Acids

There is a correlation between the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fats that your horse consumes and his ability to respond to a seasonal allergen. Omega-3 fatty acids can help during a seasonal allergic reaction. Omega-6 fatty acids, on the other hand, can exacerbate the inflammatory response. Platinum Performance® Equine is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can help support a healthy coat as well as a healthy horse. For advanced cases, the additional omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E found in Healthy Weight are supportive during outbreaks.

Study

A trial conducted at UC Davis looked at skin reactions to common allergens following intradermal skin injections in horses receiving Platinum Performance® Equine.

Outcome

Wheal sizes for a Mixed Grass antigen decreased by more than 50 percent in horses ingesting the supplement when compared to their values prior to supplementation. Similar results were noted in response to the Mosquito Culicidae and Culicoides spp. antigens.

Allergies to Insect Bites

Supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants can help with insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH) and a multitude of other allergies that some horses experience, causing itching, hives and hair loss. By supplementing to support a horse’s immune system, you can help your horse to better handle histamine levels and allergic response.

Platinum Client Success Story: Hologram

“The Platinum Performance supplements I’m feeding my horse Hologram are the most effective supplements I’ve ever used. After a big bout of hives, Gram’s coat was dull and patchy. My vet initially recommended Platinum, we started him on Platinum Performance Equine, and, six weeks later, his chestnut coat shines like a newly minted penny. Thank you Platinum Performance!”
